Radvent day 5: drawing

Let me get this out of the way right now. I am terrible at drawing. Terrible. I have zero sense of perspective and in no way have a light hand. In my entire life, the only thing I've ever been able to draw with any sense of realism iswait for ita pineapple.

And if you don't believe me, you can consult everyone with whom I took a weeklong watercoloring intensive in Hawaii in 2007. They saw it firsthand. But anyway.

Today's Radvent challenge involves drawing, and I very almost didn't do it because of that. But instead, I'm going to do my own interpretation. Also, one thing I am pretty good at is Adobe Illustrator, though you'd never really know it from what I'm about to show you (oh well).

Here's a picture (loosely interpreted, of course) of one of my best friends:
...you see, it's not that loose an interpretation, though. Really. This illustration makes me smile.

And then, when it came time to draw myself, I had decided at first to do something clever with typography. Instead, I ended up drawing my own signature in Illustrator (quite a feat when you're using the trackpad and keyboard on a laptop, let me tell you). Scott was watching me do this and was really impressed. I'm still not sure how I did it (other than "carefully"), but here it is:

Confession: I spent a long time before Scott & I got married drumming up my new signature (in one of the many Moleskine notebooks I own, half full & losing pages & worn & loved almost to death). As a result, I really love it, and I knew it was mine the moment I first signed it. I'm sure someone out there could analyze my handwriting or signature style and tell me that I'm crazy, and hey, that's totally true. And I'm sure signing my name with a star for the A means I'm a narcissist, right? Anyone out there want to take a crack at this? I'm truly interested ....

....anyway. Speaking of notebooks, my Moleskines are seriously falling apart.  And I've been coveting this amazing set of rainbow planners for 2012. Hopefully Santa will bring them to me!

After all, Santa theoretically should want me to be more organized ... right? Right.
