Snapshots from a happy life: running edition

In December I decided that I would attempt a "runstreak" -- ie, I'd be running every day in December, no matter how small the distance, and I would not overdo it. It was a commitment to fitness as well as an effort to reboot my thinking. When Jeffy died I felt awful. I had also not been taking care of myself for several months at that point due to his declining health. I had to do something about it. Running seemed like a really good way to heal my body and mind. I was right.

December was an amazing month for running, and I haven't stopped just because it's January. I feel more fit than I've ever felt in my life at this point. I've also been playing a game the last couple of weeks, where I've been using running as a way to be a tourist in my own city. I'm seeing different sights pretty much every day. Locations so far have included Berkeley, The Embarcadero all the way up to Pier 39 and down to my house, Crissy Field, the Palace of Fine Arts, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Rodeo Valley Trail in Marin, and Golden Gate Park down to the ocean. It's been awesome, and today holds another adventure (what that will be, I haven't quite decided yet). I know reality is going to kick in next week when I go back to work, but I really hope I am able to make everything balance and work and keep doing some amazing runs. One of my goals for 2013 is to run a half marathon, so I honestly can't really let up at this point if I'm REALLY going to commit to it. Scary, but exciting!

Here are some snapshots from the last couple of weeks (JUST the last couple of weeks) of what my friend Susie would call "running distractions." I also call them "reasons I love living in San Francisco."

    1. Oh thank you! I just now saw this comment. And yes -- it's so true. Lake Merced kind of came close though :P
