Radvent Day 9: Good Advice

Untitled
some great advice // if only more of us could take it
I feel like I spend a lot of time in my life considering "life advice." This is another way in which I am very contradictory: I have a lot of convictions about how life should be lived; and I don't hesitate to tell people those things. They are from a lifetime of learning. However, they also can change on a dime, when a subsequent life lesson changes my perspective. This is one of my most Gemini traits. Many people in my life haven't taken me or my words seriously because of my changeability; but trust me, I'm always taking in new information, new life lessons, and am constantly revising my "rules for living."  It's a good thing, not a bad one! Better than being stuck in the mud all the time, never open to new ideas.

On that note, here is a small list I've compiled of what I consider to be the best advice I have to give. And most of it was learned through years of not listening to other people tell me these same things...

My best advice:
  • Work as hard as you can to make your dreams come true.
  • You are in control of your own destiny. Make things happen in your life. Don't wait for things to happen to you. This is perhaps the most important advice of all!
  • If you don't ask, you'll never know the answer.
  • If you don't try, you'll never know if you can.
  • Do something every day that scares you.
  • Understand just how precious time is, because it goes faster & faster & faster.
  • Don't waste time on things, or emotions, that don't matter.
  • Acting confident -- even if you don't feel confident -- can make all the difference in success/failure.
  • Treat yourself with kindness, even (or especially) when you don't feel you deserve it.
  • Eat as well and as wholly as you can.
  • Never stop learning.
  • “Love! Love until the night collapses!” —Pablo Neruda
I find that the interesting thing about advice is this: you may be great at dishing it, but can you take it? Even my own advice seems to fall on my own deaf ears most of the time. It's so much easier to give advice than it is to listen to it, you know? Today I am not going to fight myself so much. I am going to listen to my own advice. I learned these lessons, so why rebel against them? Silly girl.

  1. Reading your "my best advice" makes me want to say, we have so much in common because I've given all of that same advice too! However, I won't say that because who am I to say that? I had a blogger say that to me, she was new to my blog, and one stop on her blog and I wanted to say, "honey, no we really really don't."

I hope your not opposed to cursing but I came across an image on Google+ that said, "Carpe that fucking diem" and it just made my day! :)
