Labor Day is typically when Real Summer™ begins in San Francisco. Hey, you know why? Because at our general latitude, the sun hits us most directly in September and October! Its about the axis of the Earth, yo! Italy feels it too, because we're at the same general latitude. We call it "Indian Summer" but that's kind of ... um ... you know, not what they call it, probably, they probably call it something nicer and not vaguely racist, and it's awesome. I love it.
Last year we didn't ever have a summer. It was more upsetting to me than I realized! I have never been what they call a "sun worshipper" but I do find that as I get older, the sun has a great impact on my mood. I also love long days because I hate coming home from work in the dark. But anyway, this weekend was absolutely gorgeous, and here are a few shots from the impromptu picnic I attended yesterday (organized by my friend Susie) in Dolores Park:
